June 23rd, Waltham, MA, 2017; Global Premier Soccer (GPS) is pleased to announce an extensive partnership with Calgary West Soccer Club which will see the Alberta organization become an Official Powered By GPS Club.
Formed in 2006, from a merger between a number of local clubs in the Greater Calgary area,
Calgary West provides programming for over 1000 youth soccer players starting at U6 to U18 at the recreational and competitive levels. Calgary West is an athlete centered organization and believes that all players, regardless of level of play, deserve the opportunity to enjoy the game of soccer and develop to his or her potential.
GPS, one of the biggest and fastest growing soccer organizations in North America, is currently active in 24 US States and territories. In 2015 GPS opened operations in the Toronto area and has current partnerships with Byron Optimist Soccer Club and Givova Academy. GPS is the Official North American Youth Partner of FC Bayern Munich and has won 16 Youth National titles.
Mary Liao, Executive Director, CWSC, had this to say. "From the first conversation with GPS it was clear they aligned with our focus on player development, and we are extremely excited for the opportunities this partnership offers our players in both technical and personal growth."
C algary West players will also have access to the GPS National Team program which sees the best players (born 2001/2/3/4) from throughout the GPS network compete in major national and international events. Calgary West SC will be able to nominate players born in these years to participate in GPS National Team Residential Camp held in early 2018. In previous years this has seen GPS teams compete in the Super Cup (Northern Ireland), MIC (Spain) and Gothia Cup (Sweden).
Calgary West will also host an FC Bayern ID program for players born 2005 and 2006 this fall. Following sessions devised by the FC Bayern Junior Team Staff, players will be identified from the program to attend a National Residential camp in 2018, and from there have the chance to be selected to travel to Germany and train with the FC Bayern teams.
Since the partnership between GPS and FC Bayern began in 2014, eight boys and girls have traveled to Munich with a further seven to be identified this summer.
Calgary West coaches will also have access to the FC Bayern Curriculum, participate in monthly conference calls with the youth coaches in Germany and send one staff member to an annual technical visit to see the FC Bayern methodology in action.
This past week saw GPS National Premier Director Andy Prosser and GPS Technical Director Mark Spalding travel to Calgary to meet with CWSC Executive Director Mary Liao and Technical Director Henry Haeusler and the CWSC Board of Directors, and observe teams in action.
