Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:13AM Referee abuse continues to be a problem in the game of soccer. Each year, we lose more than 50% our referees and one of the reasons for this is the abuse suffered by the younger officials.
A few years ago, CWSC was the first soccer club to introduce and make mandatory the use of Referee Liaisons/Field Marshals by each team. In addition to having these volunteers attend the Referee Education Courses, this year we are expanding our program by making it mandatory for
to take our new, Referee Education Course. We have moved to an online format so that it is more accessible for everyone. It is our hope that by being proactive and by providing a means for education around the issues of being a referee, we will move closer towards our goal of eliminating referee abuse from the game of soccer.
Thank you for your support in this endeavor!

Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:09AM With the start of the outdoor season coming up, Calgary West Soccer Club is actively recruiting referees. Calgary West Soccer Club welcomes back all referees from previous years and extends a special invite to those interested but new to being a referee. It's a great way for the older kids to learn more about the game and be a mentor to younger kids. CWSC will cover the cost of training for new referees and we have a few referee jerseys that can be borrowed.
Monetary incentives are being continued in our referee program. Referees must be 12 years of age at the time of the referee training course. It’s a great way to make a little extra cash while taking in nice summer evenings out on the soccer field.
For more information about the courses, please click here.
