CMSA (city wide) League - Development (U8/U10) and CompetitiveTier 1-6 (U12-U18)
Players can register with CWSC for the city-wide Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) League. The Calgary West Soccer Club will endeavor to place players at the appropriate level of play based on the number of players and conventional pyramid concepts as well as technical assessment and prior knowledge of player skills.
New this season is a U8 development CMSA league in a 4v4 (3v3 with keeper/sweeper) format, which will operate two seasons – spring and summer. The spring season will run from April 24 to June 26, with the summer season from July 21 to September 8. There will be a girls and boys division but no mixed division. There will also be a summer league for U10 teams – same dates.
Players will register for the spring season, and during the registration process, will be able to indicate their interest in continuing for the summer season. Note you cannot play in the U8 or U10 summer league if you did not play in the spring league. CMSA is allowing recombined teams of players who played in the spring league. We will open registration for the spring league in June. Team registration is by June 30, with schedules released by CMSA by the middle July.
Try Outs dates for U10 – U18 will be: Note no try outs for U8.
Session 1: Skills – March 22-24, 6-9 pm at the West Soccer Centre (TBC)
Session 2: Games – March 27-28, 9 am-5pm at McMahon Stadium (confirmed)
Teams will be formed by April 11.
Detailed schedules will be posted to the website and e-mailed out to all registrants closer to the date.
The CMSA program features:
- Season starts late April and goes until the end of June/early July for Tiers 4-6 and U8 and U10 Development, as per CMSA schedules, with the U8 and U10s also having the opportunity to continue playing through the summer, from July 21 until September 8
- Tier 1-3 runs until late July/mid August as per CMSA schedules
- Try Outs balancing independent and team coach evaluations with each player participating in 2 sessions
- Team support from the Head Coach to ensure as much support as possible for team coaches and to directly impact on team learning and performance during the season
- Intensive CWSC-BFUT Coaching Development courses in the pre season (Level 4 - April 15,16,17 and Level 3 – April 18,19,20,21,22,23)
- Intensive Player Development clinics with BFUT.
- Academy for Tier 1-3 teams at extra cost with our Head Coaches (10 sessions of 1.5 hours each). Dates to be determined. Teams in Tier 3/4 can choose to opt out if they expect to be Tier 4.
- Teams coached by Club Head Coaches opt out of Academy but must pay Head Coach fees.
- Optional Academy for Tier 4-6 teams at extra cost with our Head Coaches (10 sessions of 1.5 hours each). Dates to be determined.
- CMSA league play as per CMSA schedules (2 games per week most weeks, but can vary depending on level and scheduling).
- Weekly team practices of 1.5 hours each or more based on team coaches. Practice days and times are chosen by the coach once the teams have been formed.
- Socks and practice t-shirt will be provided. Players must have CWSC Shorts, which are available for purchase at Kicks.
- High quality ADIDAS Club Wear available at Kicks Sporting Goods.

Notes:
CMSA Tier 1-3 teams have mandatory Academy fees.
Teams in Tier 3/4 seeding may choose not to participate if they expect to be in Tier 4 in the playoff round.
Head Coach Fees takes the place of Academy fees. Teams that have Club Head Coaches as their team coaches (for example Inter, Santos, Torino) do not have to register for Academy Training but have to pay Head Coach fees.
Both are at additional cost, as outlined above.
Registration runs from February 1 to March 1, 2010. Late fees of $25 per registration apply March 2, and placement is dependent on space availability.
CMSA Program Calendar
Note that there will no longer be a Fall Cup competition in September, and Inter-City competitions will be completed by July 18, 2010.
The same league Format as indoor 2009/10 will be used, with the designations of "Premier", "Competitive" and "Developmental" no longer be used by CMSA. Instead, CMSA will be using the designations of Tiers 1 (one) through 6 (six). The designations are comparable as follows:

CMSA League Structure (Please note important changes in bold)
U8
- Game format will be 4v4 including a sweeper-keper.
- The spring league will start the week of April 24, with CMSA producing the schedule.
- Games will probably be on Saturdays.
- Entry into the CMSA U8 Minifest on June 6th is included (2 games on one day)
- Teams will finish the season with a Wrap-up festival on June 26.
- Team registration for the summer league is due by June 30. Players should indicate interest in registering for the summer league at the time of registration for the spring league.
- Summer season: Games will be played on Wednesday evenings from July 21 to September 8
- Games will be in neighboring NW communities
U10
- Scoring - website will only reflect wins and losses.
- League format will remain the same as previous seasons (Tiers A-C; seeding round and playoff round where possible; seeding round to be geographically based as much as possible)
- U10 Tier A will be scheduled on Wednesdays and Sundays. U10 Tier B will play on Mondays and Saturdays (except May 24 - games will be played on the 25th). U10 Tier C will play on Thursdays and Sundays.
- All U10 teams will be participating in the U10 Wrap-up Festival on June 26 and 27.
- There will be no Fall Cup in September
- U10s also have the option of playing in a summer league, from July 21 to September 8.

U12
The CMSA U12 league will be going to a 8vs8 format with the following format:
- Tier I/II Seeding, Tier II/III Seeding, Tier III/IV Seeding, Tier V, Tier VI
- U12 Tier I, II, III and IV - U12 will be split into Tier I/II, Tier II/III and Tier III/IV seeding groups. Clubs are to make sure that teams they feel have a valid short at a Tier 1 spot are placed into the Tier I/II seeding group. Anyone can enter their team(s) into these groupings and rank each of their team (should they have more than one) to assist CMSA in trying to balance out the seeding groups. The seeding round format will depend on the number of teams entered into these groups. At the end of the seeding round, teams will advance to Tier I, II, III or IV playoffs. Again, the format will depend on the number of teams entered.
- Tiers V and VI will play a seeding round and playoff round where possible.
- U12 Tier V will play on Wednesdays and Sndays. U12 Tier VI will play on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Tiers I-IV will play any day of the week.
- Tiers I-IV will advance to some form of provincial competition, depending on the pending decision by ASA on the format for the U12 Provincials for the Outdoor 2010 season. Tier VI leads to Outdoor City finals.
- Tier VI City Finals will be held June 26 and 27, 2010.
- There will be no Fall Cup in September.
U12 Field Requirements
- Dimensions
Length: 60 to 75 meters (with 75 being the ideal)
Width: 42 to 55 meters (with 55 being the ideal) - Goal size
Height: between 6ft and 6.5ft
Width: 18ft
U14-U18
- Tier I, Tier II/III Seeding. Tier III/IV Seeding, Tier V, Tier VI
- Tiers I-IV leads to Provincial Competition. Tier V leads to Inter-Cities, Tier VI leads to Outdoor City Finals
- U14, U16 and U18 Tier II, III and IV - will be combined into Tier II / III and III / IV seeding groups. Anyone can enter their team(s) into these groupings and rank each of their teams (should they have more than one) to assist CMSA in trying to balance out the seeding groups. The seeding round format will depend on the number of teams entered into these groups. At the end of the seeding round, will advance to Tier II, III or IV playoffs. Again, the format will depend on the number of teams entered. At the end of season, the top finishers in Tier II, III and IV will advance to ASA provincials.
- Tiers V and VI will play a seeding round and playoff round where possible.
- Tier V and VI Teams will be entered into a seeding round in one of four Zones. We are in Zone 1: Calgary North-West (West of Deerfoot Trail, North of the Bow River).
- At the conclusion of the Seeding Rounds, teams will be grouped by level of competitiveness into City-Wide divisions.
- For the Playoff Round, every attempt will be made to have teams play their games within their zone on weekdays, and limit cross-town travel to weekends.
- U14 Tiers I-IV will play any day of the week.
- U14 Tier V will play on Tuesdays and Saturdays. U14 Tier VI will play on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- All U16 and U18 divisions will play any day of the week.
- Tier VI City Finals will be held June 26 and 27.
- Inter Cities Championships will be held the weekend of July 17 and 18 rather than in September.
- There will be no Fall Cup in September.
CMSA Program Calendar Outdoor 2010
- CMSA President’s Cup on the Victoria Day long weekend will include all U10 and U12 teams, as well as U14-U18 Tier III and Below (Calgary teams registered in Tier II/III seeding rounds are not eligible for this tournament)
- CMSA Boys and Girls Tournaments – Will be combined this year the weekend of July 9-11, 2010. This tournament is for U14-U18 Tiers I-III teams.
- CMSA U4/U6 Minifest will be held Saturday June 5, 2010.
- CMSA U8 Minifest will be held Sunday, June 6, 2010.
- Tier VI City Finals will be held June 26 and 27, 2010.
- Inter Cities Championships will be held the weekend of July 17 and 18, 2010.
