Milan Bartosz’s diverse soccer career spans over 4 decades. His playing career began in the Czech Republic with Trinec in the Czech Elite League. This led to being drafted by the number one youth club in the Czech Republic (Banik Ostrava), which in turn, led to being called up to the Czech National U17 team. Upon defection from the Czech Republic in 1969, Milan found home in Calgary, where he played in the Alberta Major Soccer League and later in the Premier Division as well as with the Alberta Provincial Select Teams for over 12 years. He also represented Alberta at the Canada Summer Games and Western Canada Summer Games. At the amateur club level, he played against visiting teams from Germany (Borussia Monchengladbach), Scotland (Hibernian) and Ireland. Milan was also a member of Calgary's first Club National Champions (1973), the Springer Kickers. Calgary's first professional soccer team, the Calgary Boomers, offered Milan a professional contract but he chose to pursue post secondary education instead.
Milan's passion for soccer spread to coaching. He began coaching young local players and became a certified coach. For over 3 decades, Milan coached boys, girls, men and women at the local club level. He became Alberta Soccer Association's Staff Coach and coached Senior, U18, U17 and U16 Provincial Select Teams for 15 years. During those 15 years Milan's teams won 15 medals in Western Canadian and National Championships (5 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze medals). In 1985, Milan was instrumental in setting up the Southern Alberta High Performance Centre for elite soccer players at Lindsay Park Sports Centre (Talisman Centre). In 1991 he was part of the Canadian National Women's Team coaching staff travelling to Florida in preparation for the first Women's World Cup being held in China that year.
Based on a belief in lifelong learning, he observed and worked with Germany's Bundesliga teams Bayer Leverkusen and FC Cologne in 1995 and attended the BRUSA Brazilian Soccer Academy in Florida in 1996.
