CMSA LEAGUE (with Calgary Minor Soccer Association) for U6-U18 League Players

Players can register with CWSC for the city-wide Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) League. The Calgary West Soccer Club will endeavor to place players at the appropriate level of play based on the number of players and conventional pyramid concepts as well as technical assessment and prior knowledge of player skills. 

 

The CMSA program features:

Season starts early November and goes until early to mid-March, depending on level of play as per CMSA schedules with weekly games.

Try Outs base on objective skills tests and 3v1 and 4v2 game situations.

No try outs for U6 and U8.

U6 and U8 teams will have 1 hour practices.

U10-U18 teams will have 1.5 hour time slots. 

Note, teams will receive between 15-18 gym times between October and March, depending on the gym facility bookings. Teams are not guaranteed a practice every week, depending on their facility allocation; however the Club will endeavor to even out practices across all teams.

U6 teams are mixed. 

U8 teams can be boys or girls.  Please indicate your preference at time of registration.

We depend on volunteer coaches to coach the majority of our teams. Most coaches will be parents of players who are placed on those teams through the try out process.

We provide Player Development sessions with our Head Coaches/Technical Instructors to ensure as much support as possible for volunteer team coaches, to directly impact on team learning and performance during the season. Each U6, U8, U10 Tier C and U12-16 Tier 4/5 and U18 teams will receive 7 sessions.

  •       Mandatory Academy for U10 Tier A/B and  U12-16 1-3 at extra cost with our Head Coaches

Training t-shirt and socks included in fees. 

All players must wear CWSC shorts, which can be purchased at extra cost from Kicks Sporting Goods in Varsity.

High quality ADIDAS Club Wear is also available at Kicks.

Volunteer team coaches are strongly encouraged to participate in our In-House Coaching Development Clinic to provide the best learning and development environment for players.

Volunteer coaches are also encouraged to take NCCP Certification courses offered by Alberta Soccer Association through CMSA. All fees are covered by CWSC. Please refer to the CMSA website for NCCP Certification requirements for the Indoor 2014 2015 season and beyond.

Important Dates

 Try Outs will be held between Sept 20/21 and 27/28 at Ranchlands DQ. Wear outdoor cleats.. A detailed schedule will be released closer to the dates..

 Teams formed by October 1st.

 Regular gym permits start the week of October 3.

CWSC TECHNICAL PROGRAM

Player Development

We will continue to offer Player Development sessions to all CWSC U6, U8, U10 Tier C, and U12-18 Tier 4/5 teams registered into the CMSA program.

Extra Team Support Packages are also available for team wanting more support from CWSC Head Coaches throughout the season, including running technical sessions for teams, coaches or tactical support in games.

For every extra 5 sessions, the cost will be $30 per player with a minimum of 14 players per team. Note, technical sessions will be run during the regular team practices.

Academy Program

Our Technical Programs are run by the most qualified, and experienced, Technical Directors in the city.  Henry Haeusler holds a valid UEFA Professional License and is therefore certified to coach at the professional level in Europe and worldwide. He has over 35 years of experience in professional and youth academy development in Europe and Canada. The UEFA Pro license is the highest coach’s license you can reach and is not available in Canada.  

Our Head Coaches, Nigel Brattle, Morgan Nkathos, German Camacho, Lorenzo DeCicco, and Renato Rosario, and our Goal Keeper Trainer, Jordan Unreimer are all ex-professional soccer players, having played in the UK, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Europe, and Columbia.  Our Head Coaches have the expertise to impart the highest quality instruction to our players. 

Our Academy program integrates weekly soccer focused sports conditioning sessions delivered by the foremost sports conditioning program in the city.  Paul Balsom, the founder and CEO of Athlete Factory, holds several conditioning contracts in the Football Premiership in the UK, including Chelsea FC and Manchester City FC. In 1998, Paul was brought in by Ged Roddy, Director of Sport at Bath University to act as a consultant. Ged is now the Director of Youth at the English Premier League leading the development of the Elite Player Performance Plan, considered to be the working model for youth soccer development.  

CWSC players will benefit from the highest level of expertise and experience in youth soccer development to become technically proficient soccer players who can control the ball with game intelligence.  

CWSC will be providing Academy training for all U10 Tier A and B and U12 -16 Tier 1-3 teams.

Academy will include 26-27sessions over 14 weeks (2x per week depending on team schedules), with Tier 1and prospect Tier 1 teams participating in Friday futsal (14 dates including the clinic)and 1 weekend session, and Tier 2 and 3 teams participating in Mon or Thur sessions and 1 weekend session.

Tier 1 playing futsal, and prospect Tier 1 teams will participate in an intensive futsal clinic with a guest futsal professional coach from Brazil. The clinic will take place Dec 19-21 at BCS.

Weekend sessions will include 30 minutes of training with Athlete Factory.

Academy sessions will be held at the Bearspaw Christian School gym. 

U18 Tier 1-3 is optional.

Optional Academy for Tier 4-6 teams is available at extra cost with our Head Coaches.

Development Groups

Academy will be run by teams for the indoor season due to the difficulties with scheduling Development Groups around multiple team schedules. However players will be identified to move up to development Groups they would benefit from training with additionally. Players can then train with those Development Groups additional to their own team academy schedules.

Up until U14, CWSC places a strong emphasis on individual player development, and believes that teams will get better when players enhance their individual abilities.  We build teams that will succeed for the long term, not just for short term success.


 Age Groups and Registration Fees

Registration for the CMSA program runs from July 31st to August 31st.  A late fee of $25 per registration will be applied to registrations after August 15th and placement will not be guaranteed. 

Please note: CMSA players who have not paid their fees (registration/academy/head coach/extra gym fees (indoor only) will be deregistered with CMSA by June 1 for outdoor, and December 1 for indoor.

Credit card, INTERAC or cheque:

We will continue to offer credit card and INTERAC payments with online registrations.  Cheques will still be accepted, but members are strongly encouraged to utilize the convenience of online payment.

Late fees

A late fee of $25 will be applied after August 15th for CMSA registrations.

NSF cheques will incur a charge of $25
