NCCP Certification Courses (for CMSA coaches)

CMSA Please see the list of coaching courses available through CMSA for spring 2010. Coaches are asked to register, pay up front and then submit receipts to CWSC for reimbursement.

The goal of the CWSC Coach Development Program is to have every coach complete their coaching certification. Coaches should plan to take:

A. NCCP Technical (Soccer Specific) Courses:

1. COMMUNITY COACH CHILDREN(SOCCER): 10 units (one day) for Children 6-10 year olds

2. COMMUNITY COACH YOUTH (SOCCER) : 18 units (two days). Day 1: 10-12 year olds Day 2: 12-14 year olds

3. COMMUNITY COACH SENIOR (SOCCER) : 22 units (two days). Day 1: 14 years old and older Day 2: 14 years old and older

1. NCCP Community Coach Children - The Community Coach Children course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 6 to 10 year old range. The content of this course is based around the FUNdamentals of mini-soccer and touches on the following areas: stages of development, basic practice planning, the role of the coach, ethics, safety and liability, review of mini-soccer rules, basic skill development and ample amounts of sample practice sessions. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.Pre-requisite: athletic individuals and lots of participation Course Length: 8 hours 


2. NCCP Community Coach Youth - The Community Coach Youth course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 11 to 14 year old range. The content of this course is based around coaching players at the recreational youth level of soccer and touches on the following areas: stages of development, conducting and planning training sessions, the role of the coach, ethics, safety and liability, team development, technical skill development and information on coaching youth players. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.Pre-requisite: Community Coach Children is strongly recommended, but not mandatory Course Length: 16 hours (usually organized over a 2 day period)   


3. NCCP Community Coach Senior - The Community Coach Senior course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 14 to 18 year old range. The content of this course is geared towards coaching at a more competitive level of youth soccer and touches on the following areas: stages of development, advanced technical skill development, aspects of coaching, coaching team play (systems/tactics), set plays, coaching the goalkeeper, attacking and defending principles, fitness, physical preparation (warm-up and cool-down), first-aid, ethics, and safety and liability. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.Pre-requisite: Community Coach Children and Community Coach Youth are strongly recommended, but not mandatory; participants must be at least 16 years old. Course Length: 16 hours (usually organized over a 2 day period) 

 B. NCCP Theory Courses:

Coaches are strongly encouraged to take the NCCP Theory courses in addition to the NCCP Technical Soccer Courses

Our goal is to have all of our coaches certified - this means taking all 3 Technical NCCP Courses and at least Part A and Part B of the NCCP Theory courses.

B LICENSE PRE-TEST

If, after reaching the Certificate level, a coach wishes to pursue further certification levels, the CSA offers a Coach Licencing Program. To assist coaches in preparing for the CSA’s Licencing Program, the Alberta Soccer Association offers a "B License Pre-Test. Entry into the CSA Licensing Program is dependent on applying for and passing a formal "pre-test" (assessment of playing and coaching ability).

CWSC Payment Policy

CWSC will cover the cost for all club CMSA coaches pursuing their coaching certification. Please pay for and attend the course, and send the receipt to CWSC and we will reimburse you. We will only pay the Pre B Assessment Course upon successful  recommendation to register for the B-License Course.  We will likewise pay for the B-License Course upon successful completion (ie pass) of the course.

Please consider the welfare of the club – we hope that coaches that have utilized CWSC funding to attain their coaching certification will continue coaching for the club for at least 2 seasons and preferably more.
